Heat Break
We managed to venture to a park this morning which thankfully had shady sitting rocks within reach of the mist drifting off of the splash pad. I prepared by drinking fluids all morning, and packed lunches to be eaten on the way home so I could relax right when we got inside.
During the day when I get a minute to cool down, I usually drift to sleep for 10 or 15 minutes. But after dinner, when we've made it through the day, it's like my body knows that it can enjoy relaxing without having to sleep for survival. It's my new favorite time of day. I can read or write, while breaking for interruptions from the the kids wanting to show me their art or play peekaboo. Sometimes they join me in reading. Usually they play with each other, and the volume of their laughs grow over time.
I like sharing this post-dinner hour with friends if we've had people over for dinner. But it's also become one of my favorite family times. All thanks to my low capacity for this summer's heat.
