What I Read: The Readers' Room
I stumbled upon The Readers' Room after wanting to read some French literature (translated into English), instead of anglo authors writing about France. This is one of a few novels Antoine Laurain has written. It was short, easy to digest, had a somewhat interesting plot and entertaining cadence to it. There were little surprises that would pop up, like various descriptions of a scene, including the body type and disposition of every character. It was poetic at times, but never flowery.
One of my favorite things to follow throughout the book was the author’s description of how each character smoked. He often described the fashion in which they lit their cigarette, how they took it, and how they felt about their habit.
This was a curious book to read. Interesting without being challenging. Easy to pick up after having put it down days or weeks ago. An enjoyable experience all around.
