To All The Furniture I've Ever Loved

In recent years I have grown to love giving things away via the local parent BST facebook group. I've never had something NOT get picked up when posted for free. I'm happy to know that the item isn't going straight to a landfill, but it also saves me the trouble of dropping it off at a thrift store. The transactions are easy, and I feel good knowing that I didn't overcharge anybody for defunct furniture.

Letting things go can still bring some sadness. Anything we've had in our house has been well loved! I have memories of my kids using certain pieces, and closer associations with previous apartments that used to house these things. But I come to a point, especially when things are broken and I'm not taking the time to fix them, where I know that the memory of the thing is more valuable than the space it is taking up in our house.

And so in honor of memories, clearing out space, and sustainable living, here is some furniture I loved and let go.

The rattan outdoor loveseat from Ikea. We bought it back in 2017 and used it both indoors and outdoors. I threw the cushion away some years ago when I couldn't get rid of the mold it had accumulated, and I should have given it away then. It was so cute, felt integrated with our home and just so us. But I was never going to go through the trouble of sourcing a new cushion (and I never found the bench to be that comfortable).

The hallway table given to us by my mom's friend when she was ready to part with it. It served some purposes back when the house was more empty, but ultimately was not an efficient use of space.

The white rocker as old as our marriage! We bought this for our first apartment. It was always cute, but the dimensions never felt quite right, and when it lost a screw along the way I realized after not fixing it for a long time that it really wasn't a useful part of our home.

The more I give things away the more I want to give MORE things away, and acquire anything else second hand whenever possible.
